Reservoir & Power Station

The Kaprun power station and reservoirs are of historical importance. Even as early as the beginning of the 20th Century the people of Kaprun had decided to use the water of the surrounding mountains to create power. The Kaprun power station was completed in 1955.
Three enormous dam walls were built and are today an interesting attraction for visitors to the area.

The Moosersperre wall: 107m high, 497m long
Drossensperre wall: 112m high, 357m long
Limbergsperre wall: 120m high, 357m long
The altitude of these valley walls is particularly fascinating: the Mooser and Drossen walls are 2,040 m above sea level and the Limberg dam wall is 1,675 m above sea level. Breathtaking views are guaranteed!

You can drive or take the bus number 660 to Kesselfall Alpenhaus. Then you can take a modern bus or Europe's largest open inclined elevator - another highlight to take home with you!
